How it started

A habit that became a practice

Orquess grew out of one editor's evening habit — reading a colleague's unfinished draft under a desk lamp, well after the newsroom had emptied, and writing down, plainly, what the piece seemed to be reaching for.

Word spread among freelancers who didn't have an editor of their own. What began as a favor became a small practice, then a service, built around the same idea: a draft usually knows more than its writer can see from the inside.

Today we work with independent journalists across Indonesia, still one piece at a time, still without templates or shortcuts.
